WELCOME Welcome to The Open One Challenge. In order to be crowned the Most Open One, you'll have to follow these simple steps detailing the process for correct photo taking and uploading of your open hours. Make sure you get the full credit for all your hours spent motoring top down, you deserve it. |
STEP ONE As your first step of entry into the Challenge, after you register and set up your profile here at TheOpenOne.com, you must establish your starting point by uploading a photo of your tachometer. While the new Openometer is the inspiration behind this challenge, it tracks up 7 hours in an analog fashion before resetting itself. However since we're sure you'll be motoring top-down way longer than that, we need you to photograph the tachometer where the digital eternal timer tracks and displays your cumulative open hours to date. Hours are accumulated by having the car running (preferably motoring) and the top completely down having your sunroof open doesn't count. (And any open hours accumulated prior to establishing your starting point won't count either.) To see your eternal timer displayed in the tachometer, tap the end of your turn signal stalk until you see the top-down image of the MINI. Below the digital image is your cumulative open hours total. |

STEP TWO Grab your camera and snap a photo of your tachometer. Make sure the picture is straight on, clear, in focus and all numbers are readable. Watch out for dash glare! We can't validate blurry, shaky, or otherwise unreadable photos. |
STEP THREE Once you get back home, save your tachometer photo to your computer's hard drive as a jpg, gif or png. |
STEP FOUR Then go to your Profile Page at TheOpenOne.com (you'll need to log in if you're not already). On your Profile page, click the SUBMIT HOURS link near the top. |
STEP FIVE On the SUBMIT HOURS page, click the BROWSE button. A window will appear allowing you to browse your hard drive. Find and select your latest tachometer photo. |
STEP SIX Next, fill out the remaining fields on the SUBMIT HOURS page using your photo as a reference. Enter your number of open hours. Then enter your number of open minutes. Make sure the numbers you enter match up with the ones in your photo. |
STEP SEVEN Click the SUBMIT button to upload your information. That's it. You're done. |
STEP EIGHT Shortly you'll receive an email letting you know your information has been received. Once the hours are validated on our end, using sophisticated encryption technology and something the boys in the lab call "algorithms", you'll receive another email letting you know your submitted hours have passed muster and your profile and ranking will be updated. If there was an error for example: if the photo was blurry making your hours unreadable you'll get an email kindly asking you to resubmit a new photo for validation. Until those hours are validated, your history page will show that they are waiting for validation. Just follow this same process any time you want to add additional hours and check your profile often to make sure your most recent hours are counting toward your total. Now here's a tip from us (free of charge)... Prizes are awarded to the Top Open Motorers at the end of each month and are ranked by calculating the highest daily average over the course of that month. So it's best to post your hours on the last day of the month to get the highest average possible. |
STEP NINE Now all that's left is to hit the open road, motor your face off and rack up those hours. Who knows? Maybe you could be crowned the Open One, the Most Open Motorer in all the land. Good luck! |
